I Don't Fit...
by WolfVayne

"I don't fit in"
Why not? What are you not fitting into? You have built up a small idea of what this World is, and what you are not. You think you don't belong here, when you do. If you did not fit in, then you would not be here.

It is a feeling often experienced by kin, awakened, and awakening - the not fitting in. You think you are special - or you want to believe you are special - and you adamantly deny that you have ever belonged here. You are no more special - no matter what you are or what you are not - than the next person, animal, or being. We are all equal. But we are all different. And each one of us are meant to be here

I think people mix up the fact that 'not fitting in' is a teenage thing; not just a Kin thing. It is a mere coincidence that many Kin awaken when they are teenagers. No wonder the 'unbelonging' gets put together with being a Kin.

You know, we don't even need examples of the negative consequences of not feeling human. I think that people realize (some take longer than others) that feeling like 'not fitting in' is a horrible waste of time. This kind of thinking; though typical and almost expected from most teenagers, is a very negative thing for the Otherkin community. I have come across many, many people who reckon we are trying to escape from reality by pretending to be Faeries, or Wolves, or Angels and so forth. I don't think any Otherkin wants to be seen as pretentious. In fact, I for one, try my hardest to stay grounded and focused on Reality, for both my benefit, and to show others how happy and content you can be, by simply being yourself.

Another thing is that, as I said, this kind of "I don't belong" behavior is expected from teenagers. It is rare that you come across a being who says "I always felt that I fitted in". Ironically, by saying that you don't fit in, you are being exactly the same as everybody else in this world. Gods like, the cool thing nowadays should be to completely fit in!

This stupid waste of time can have very horrible consequences. Suicide for example. 'Kill me so I can get out of here.' I am generalizing, yes. But when you get swallowed up by the idea of "I'm not supposed to be here", you ARE insecure. You ARE negative. And you will completely loose touch with this world - the things that actually matter.

The term "mundies" is such a stupid word. It's slang for mundane, yet we call anybody who is not Otherkin, Pagan, Magical-worker etc etc a "mundy". It is sort of like saying: You are mundane (boring and monotonous) because you don't work magic / are an Otherkin / interested in the Occult. How very crappy.

(from DrkDespair) Also, during teenagers year, is when a person will try all sort of lifestyles, thus not really fitting anywhere. it is a sort of a lost feeling, trying to find the right niche to fit in, school, work, relationships, independence from parents, etc Exactly. Wow, I mean if you were to mark the stages of my teenage life so far, I do not doubt that I could fit in to at least 10 common stereotypical labels.

I think people mix up the fact that 'not fitting in' is a teenage thing; not just a Kin thing. It is merely a coincidence that many Kin awaken when they are teenagers. No wonder the 'unbelonging' gets put together with being a Kin.

But I can look at two sides of the coin. I will admit that the feeling of 'belonging' to the Otherkin community is like a new home; a new beginning for some, after spending time in the 'not-fitting-in' mood. Many who do not fit in, go in search of things that may help them fit in somewhere.
